The Tax Foundation has released an interesting study showing where the most child tax credits are claimed. The data is demonstrated as the percentage of taxpayers taking the Child Tax Credit (CTC), a refundable tax credit that varies by number of children and amount of earned income.

Not surprisingly, Utah easily comes in first as the state with the highest percentage of taxpayers claiming the CTC.

But how much variation is there within the state?

Tooele County has the highest percentage, with 30% of taxpayers claiming the CTC. Only one county in the entire United States beats Tooele County – Shannon County in South Dakota with 31%.

Close runners up in Utah are Uintah and Duchesne with 29%, and Box Elder, Davis, Utah, Juab and Beaver with 26%.
